And yet, despite all this, there’s something lacking in the modern way of it — Story! The deep unconscious need to be involved; a need for more than just the pure sounds.

The old peoples had it; carvings, cave paintings, hell even body painting at ritual festivals and dance — we so called civilized tribes do this even today (it’s just called fashion now).

And what of the pure sounds these days ? Sure, we still listen to sounds; we download them by the million each and every week. But do they really fulfill our need — the need to connect with the music, with the soul and fabric of the artist; to really experience the emotion that went into the creation of the piece ?

Personally, we feel the answer is a resounding no!

We have started to sacrifice the true art and experience that is music, sacrifice it on the alter of convenience — the fast, but shallow, fix!

This is inevitable, we are at the point in our history where technology is sometimes not the answer we hoped for; sometimes easier is not better; avoiding the need to use our thinking heads to enjoy something is not always (ever) a good thing. And yet, it seems, this is the way of the world today.

Cast back in time, you don’t have to go that far; but pre-digital downloads for sure. Time was a music collection was something to be treasured; built up over years — even a lifetime — and enjoyed on many different levels.

There was the joy of listening for sure; but something else also, the feeling of immersion, connection. You would spend an evening in the company of your chosen sounds, listening, relaxing, understanding, learning.

The accompanying booklets with their glossy artwork, cutting edge design and flowery prose — like an acid trip in text — they drew you in, augmenting the sounds and making the whole experience real.

Without the images and text of the booklets what did you have ? Just a collection of sounds very much like the downloads of today. But take the whole as it was intended; sounds, emotion, words, imagery, texture, spirit; now you have as close as one can get to a live performance. As close as we can get to the real true experience of story!

I keep saying story and you may wonder why. Think back in time, even before written language, primeval, guttural, instinctive animal. Music, “The Beat” in combination with images like carvings and cave paintings. These were the language. Used to convey raw emotion and to carry the tribes story onwards to the next generation

But what of our story ? Modern generations. The “download generation” in danger of becoming the digital dead. Dead of soul. Dead of feeling, Dead of memory. The story is in danger of dying in our hearts and in our minds.

Will you show off your music collection to your children ? How, on a file listing in Windows Explorer ? Year right. Not got a good feeling to it does it. Are you old enough to remember your parents music, maybe an extensive collection or maybe a more humble few LP’s and maybe some cassettes — oh, you’re not “that” old, sorry. Think CD’s then, yes a CD collection.

Know what they all have in common (apart from the sounds) ? They are a more complete, tangible experience. You can touch and feel them, hold them in your hands, read and look at them — not just jack into a player to get at the raw sound.

This is what we call the the true recorded music experience.

OK so what’s this e-cd al about ?

In a nut shell the e-cd is an old style LP but brought up to date for the 21st century. It is the best of the old combined with the new digital age. We do not seek to fight downloads, indeed we embrace them as the way forward BUT…

But, the e-cd is a more complete experience on all levels. We have created a downloadable album (nothing new there) in mp3 format; plonk it on your ipod, laptop, phone or whatever you like …

Then notice the other file in the download. A PDF. This is the real gem. Each e-cd comes with a unique, hand crafted, cutting edge booklet containing imagery and story for each artist and track on the e-cd. The entire verse written out for slower study, to absorb in a way only words can be.

Finally, for now, each e-cd also has a dedicated forum on our main site as well as twitter streams and a facebook page. Think of these as the stream of consciousness flowing from one listener to another — the digital equivalent of the old cave paintings if you will.

This experiment only works, for you, if you can drop the modern digital isolationist practices and embrace this community — share the life energy in these places and they, in turn, will breath life into you.

Now that is the true digital music experience.

With the release of our first e-cd Inspiration, we have launched a competition for the best track on the album voted for by all our users.

If you have yet to download the e-cd then do so now, it’s free and contains over 40 minutes of free music along with a high visual impact E-Booklet.

Once you’ve listened to the tracks get over to the forum and tell us which is your favourite. Once you cast your vote your username will be entered into the prize draw to win a free ITunes voucher. The winner will be selected at random.

The musician with the winning track will be rewarded with a number of prizes including a free custom designed e-cd for one of their albums, a free professional Press Release and 6 Months free New Beats Media Premium account access when we launch this Summer.
