Pandora's Box UK Number 1 Covers
As well as vocal harmonies being strong point in Pandora’s Box skill set, they are also imaginative with the arrangements of their accompanying instruments. This makes it easy for them to create original sounding songs from the wide variety of music from the pop charts. The Hertfordshire based folk pop band have been creating their own versions of each new UK number one and uploading their performances straight to Youtube. We will be covering each new video as it’s uploaded!
Rihanna Only Girl (In the World)
This cover of the Rihanna hit takes the melody of the original and places it in the completely opposite situation of acoustic folk. Although their line up is minimal, they easily fill the sound with great vocal harmonies, which not only work as background textures but also serve to create strong dynamics.
JLS Love You More
If every JLS song sounded like this version I would defiantly stop ignoring them and in all probability, start buying their music. Until that day I’m happy to settle for the weekly covers from Pandora’s Box. This song sees them taking their usual style of acoustic folk and adding a pinch of Caribbean rhythm to create a much more pleasing song than the original.
Heroes — X Factor Finalists 2010
After another bland uninspiring reworking of classic by the ready meal factory of pop music, it’s great to hear this offering from Pandora’s Box as they perform it with the taste and thought of the original. The excellent vocal harmonies of this cover generate a beautiful yet strong overly to the drums and guitar.
Black Eyed Peas — The Time (Dirty Bit)
Here we see the band taking a different direction from their usual acoustic folk tone and have stayed more inline with the original by adding a synth to their line up. To their credit, they gave melody to the verses instead of rapping, however, it would have been nice if they had ventured a little further from the phonic car crash of the original.
When We Collide — Matt Cardle / Biffy Clyro
Just as in the original, this version starts with vocals and guitar builds with a crescendo towards the chorus. The fact that the line up only consists of guitars, vocals and piano doesn’t mean that the song looses any power over the original.
Rihanna — What’s My Name
This version Rihanna’s hit once again shows of the bands skill with vocal arrangements. Here they have stripped the song right back and given rebuilt it with guitars to give a tranquil folk sound with the slide guitar from guest performer Nico Hayes giving it an original twist.
