Introducing The Fantastic K1nk
Julie Thompson - Shine (K1nk’s Remix) 8.11
[Upcoming release on Blackhole recordings]
A heartbeat backing pace is set from the off set of this track. Disjointed and irregular beats at the beginning of the track capture the listener. Although most dance tracks are stereotypically thought of as being monotonous drones of synthesisers, this remix offers a relaxed and almost mellow sound as the track matures when introducing vocals that can be picked up from around 1.15. The soft feminine lyrics almost enhance the guidance that the track offers. Exampling: ‘don’t look down;, ‘don’t let go’ and ‘hold on, reach out’ are all reinforcements for the listener to involve their own state of mind and well being within the track. The clarity of the lyrics seem to become more apparent as the track progresses– around 5.27. This may be done as a means to signify a movement within the track, as if the more that you hear, the clearer things become.
Within the 8 minutes and 11 seconds of the song, the listener is presented with a great extensive sound in which they are given a clean insight into the genre of music. Although the track has a gentle tone, there is a level of diverse complexity that can be deciphered from the technical abilities. The mellow sound of the track is broken 2 minutes in, where the sound seems to crescendo slightly and change in tempo. This track is a layered piece of technical dance diversity. The repetitive backbone of the female groan becomes almost contagious throughout the track with it disappearing to beats and then echoing in the background. Cheating yourself seems to be the message voiced throughout the track, The staccato and irregularity keeps this track fresh and although it is fairly lengthy the listener does not become stuck within the same beat and temp as this is always changing direction.
Towards the end of the track at 6.11 the vocals offer: ‘don’t give up there’s always doubt’. This is soon chased with: ‘now let me see you shine’ at 6.27 and again enhanced with the repetitive female echoed groan. As a listener you cannot help but continue to the track becoming familiar with the changes in tempo and sound as they are intertwined within the tracks structure. As a remix, the track is an example of progression through sound. Opening with staccato off beats and then climaxing to pleading vocals of positive reinforcement causes the listener to connect with the track. Impressive and dramatic, eight minutes of great talent, skill and sound.
Eclipse - Beltek (K1nk’s Lunar Mix) 6.37
[Released on Armada Music]
A hard-hitting bass line beat is the main body of a dance track and if that is what you are looking for, then this track is where you will find it. The overlapping sounds and echoed waves causes this track to have an incredible diverse range. At 1 minute 20 seconds a whipping like sound is introduced that acts independently as a beat. Melodic tones and beats are heard over the mesh of sound but it is the strong beats and the rhythm that are prominent in the track. A change of tempo at 1 minute 49 seconds unveils the core of the track and it is almost like it becomes released. Constantly changing and with being erratic and irregular keeps the track exciting. New sounds and beats are continually being introduced to the listener, offering a built up structurally and technically impressive dance sound.
There is a almost a connotative sound that dance tracks seem to hold. Although it is difficult to stray away from this expectation, Eclipse seems to offer a new perspective. At 2 minutes 24 seconds into the track the synthesisers are string and adds a break in the track with electronic sound. Such technicality gives the track depth. It is hard not to listen to this track and keep still. This Lunar mix is a pick n’ mix of dance talent and sound. The listener is presented with an original take and sound and the constant change in tempo, rhythm and the vast range of sounds used collaborates this track into something unique. Unfamiliarity– coming from some of the sounds used means that this track holds its own in the dance off. Impressive and clean with a full diverse beat throughout.

Instantly this track offers the listener a fragment of sound of dance. The fifteen second progressive build up to the opening lyric: ‘when you feel like you’re going down, turn around you’ll see me holding on behind you ’ uses a depressive lyrical element to spark the beat of the track that ignites at 45 seconds in. At 2 minutes 58 seconds, it is a quite short for dance track but it still holds its own and delivers an Ibiza sound with a steady and regular tempo. The beat seems to be re-established at 1.15 along with the opening lyrics being repeated. There is an almost wave sound that be picked up in the track throughout, allowing the listener to escape to a place of paradise. As the track progresses so does the beat. A new sound is introduced at1 minute 59 seconds offering a slightly dreamy synthesised sound. Contrasting this, at 2 minutes 12 seconds a slightly heavier bass beat hits in bringing the track back to holding a dance beat. Structurally the track is strong– giving it almost a narrative start, middle and end structure. It has a strong beat that gives the track strength. The conclusive lyrics: ‘set you free’ gives the track a means to an end. Just shy of 3 minutes, this track is a great example of how to capture the listener within a steady familiar beat that is complimented with the accommodating female vocals.
